As A Writer

Once in a 1A class, in the middle of the first lecture of the term, after I had explained all the essays students would be writing, a young man in the back of the class raised his hand and demanded to know what I had written.  I might know about writing, but could I do it?  Well, fair enough.

Here are some bits and pieces you might enjoy reading:

Recent articles from my local food scolumn in The Daily Triplicate:

The Righteous Crab

The Upside to Rainy Days

The Localvore: Local Eating Can Beat All

First Chapter of Alaska Men, the novel I wrote for my Master’s Thesis.

A chapter of The Last Snake in Africa, the novel I’ve been working on lately.

“Learning to Fly: The Weaver Bird,” a piece I sold to BBC’s radio program, Short Story.  It aired all over the world in 1997.

“Beasts in the Jungle,” an article which was accepted in a writing anthology called Adventures in Green Travel.  It has yet to see print.

“As Far as I Know,” a humorous essay about teaching.  You could probably call it a “process essay” if you had to stick a label on it.

“The Shoes that Carried Me,” an example of a narrative essay.
